All five candidates for the upcoming Karnataka Legislative Council byelection for the Dakshina Kannada Local Authorities Constituency have had their nominations approved. The nominations, scrutinized on October 4 by Returning Officer and Deputy Commissioner M.P. Mullai Muhilan, include BJP’s Kishor B.R. (Kishor Kumar Puttur), Congress’ Raju Poojary, Anwar Sadath S. of the Social Democratic Party of India, and independent candidates Mohammed Riyaz and Dinakar Ullal.
This byelection, prompted by the resignation of BJP’s Kota Srinivas Poojary, holds high stakes for the party, which has maintained the seat since 2008. BJP’s Kishore Kumar Puttur, an RSS member contesting for the first time, will rely on traditional party support, while Congress’ Raju Poojary, a seasoned cooperative leader, hopes to leverage his experience.
