Mangaluru — A drug crackdown in the city has revealed how community action can make a powerful difference. Mangaluru Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy credited a single parent’s report for helping prevent narcotics from reaching nearly 200 people.

“Two days ago, a worried couple approached us about their son’s drug use,” said the commissioner. “This prompted us to form a dedicated investigation team.”

Their inquiry led to the arrest of five individuals caught attempting to distribute ganja in small packets. Officers also confiscated about 6 kilograms of ganja. The suspects were allegedly targeting both students and working professionals.

The commissioner emphasized the potential of public cooperation:
“If one parent’s action can help stop 200 people from accessing drugs, imagine the impact if 10 or 100 citizens came forward. We could completely eradicate the drug threat from Mangaluru.”

He appealed to citizens to report drug-related activities without hesitation. “Those battling addiction will be treated as victims in need of support and rehabilitation. However, suppliers and peddlers will face strict legal consequences,” he affirmed.

The incident underscores the role of community vigilance in curbing drug abuse and promoting a safer environment.
