Mangaluru, Sept 9: A tragic road accident at Kulur on Tuesday claimed the life of a private hospital employee, after her scooter hit a pothole and she was fatally run over by a truck.
The incident
The deceased has been identified as Madhavi, who was commuting on her scooter when she lost control after hitting a large pothole on the road. Eyewitnesses said she fell onto the road, where a fish-laden truck ran over her, leading to her death on the spot.
Public outrage
Local residents expressed anger and grief over the condition of the road, alleging official negligence despite repeated appeals. They highlighted that potholes are spread across the stretch between Mulki and Pumpwell, posing a constant danger to commuters.
“Authorities wake up only after lives are lost. Many of us have complained several times, but nothing has been done,” said a resident.
Demands for action
Citizens have urged immediate repair and maintenance of the highway to prevent further tragedies. Residents warned that unless urgent measures are taken, more lives could be lost due to the hazardous road conditions.
