Mangaluru: Karkala Town police have registered a case against right-wing activist Ravish Thantri Kuntar for allegedly delivering a provocative speech at a public programme in Kukkundoor village.

According to police, the Dharmasthala Abhimanigala Vedike organised a janagraha sabhe at the ground in front of Kukkundoor gram panchayat on Wednesday. Ravish, a leader of the Hindu Aikya Vedike, Kerala, was the keynote speaker at the event.

He is accused of delivering a provocative speech with the intention of disturbing peace in society. Based on the complaint, Karkala police registered a case under Sections 353(2) and 196(1)(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Complaint filed in Mangaluru against Congress functionary

In a separate development, the BJP Yuva Morcha Dakshina Kannada district president, Nandan Mallya, lodged a complaint against Udupi District Congress social media cell president Roshan Shetty.

Mallya, in his complaint filed at Barke police station in Mangaluru, alleged that Shetty had posted messages on Facebook that posed a threat to India’s sovereignty, unity, and integrity. Police have taken up the complaint for further investigation.

Udupi: Senior citizen loses ₹50 lakh in cyber fraud

Meanwhile, Udupi police registered a major case of cyber fraud involving a 62-year-old man who lost ₹50.2 lakh to online scammers.

The complainant, Rajasekhar from Ambalpadi, stated that he was added to a WhatsApp group where the administrator shared a link to a securities trading web application. Believing it to be genuine, he invested about ₹52.7 lakh in phases between July 16 and August 13.

While he managed to withdraw ₹2.5 lakh initially, he was unable to withdraw the remaining funds. Realising he had been duped, Rajasekhar approached the police. A case was registered at the Udupi cybercrime police station, and investigations are underway.

Conclusion: Police tackle diverse challenges

The incidents highlight the range of law enforcement challenges faced in the coastal districts—from provocative speeches and social media misuse to large-scale online financial fraud. While police in Karkala and Mangaluru pursue cases related to speech and political complaints, cybercrime investigators in Udupi are focusing on tracking the fraudsters who cheated the senior citizen.
