Mangaluru: Puja Acharya of Puttur is seeking justice and safety for herself and her young child after receiving threats linked to a marriage cheating case. Her mother, Namita Acharya, revealed that suspicious individuals have been spotted near their home in recent days, causing the family to fear for their lives.

The family has submitted an appeal to Inspector General of Police (Western Zone) Amit Singh, requesting police protection. KP Nanjundi, state president of their community, also personally appealed for security measures.

The case involves Shri Krishna J. Rao (21), who allegedly impregnated Puja after promising marriage. The two, from the same village, had been in a relationship since 9th grade. Puja claims Krishna’s parents initially assured they would arrange the marriage and record his name as the father on the child’s birth certificate. However, days before the due date, his father, Shri Jagannivas, allegedly refused the marriage, stating his son did not consent.

Following her complaint to Puttur Women’s Police Station on June 24, 2025, Krishna was arrested in Mysore on July 5. The court later cancelled his bail.

Now, with alleged intimidation attempts underway, Puja fears for her and her child’s safety, urging authorities to ensure their protection while the case proceeds.
