Mangaluru: Bus driver’s presence of mind saves scooter rider
A major accident was narrowly avoided at Nanthoor junction on Saturday, August 30, thanks to the alertness of a bus driver. The incident occurred around 8.45 pm when Shashidhar Shetty, driver of the Rajalaxmi bus (route no. 15), was travelling from KPT to Nanthoor.
According to reports, a scooter, reportedly over-speeding, hit a large pothole on the road and skidded, throwing the rider onto the road. Shashidhar, driving behind the scooter, applied the brakes just in time, preventing a potential tragedy.
Dash-cam footage goes viral
The entire episode was captured on the bus’s dash-cam, and the video has since gone viral on social media. Netizens praised the driver’s alertness and quick reflexes, noting that his actions likely saved the rider’s life.
Road safety concerns
The incident has once again drawn attention to the dangers posed by potholes at Nanthoor and along several stretches of national highways. Citizens have urged local authorities to take immediate action to repair the roads and prevent further accidents.
“This incident is a reminder that road maintenance cannot be delayed. The potholes are putting lives at risk every day,” said a local resident.
Conclusion
While the scooter rider escaped serious injury, the incident underscores the critical importance of both vigilant driving and timely road repairs. Authorities are being urged to act swiftly to prevent similar near-misses in the future.
