Veteran journalist, writer, and thinker V T Rajashekhar passed away at a private hospital in Mangaluru on Wednesday, November 15, 2024, at the age of 93. Ailing for some time, Rajashekhar was a prominent figure in the field of journalism and advocacy of dalit rights, having served Indian Express for over two decades. In 1981, he founded ‘Dalit Voice’, a publication dedicated to the struggle for Dalit rights and social justice.
A staunch critic of the Sangh Parivar, Rajashekhar was a strong advocate for reservation policies and the upliftment of Dalit communities. His contributions were recognized both nationally and internationally through various honors and awards. His legacy continues to inspire those fighting for social equity and justice.
Rajashekhar is survived by his son, Saleel Shetty, who has served as the General Secretary of Amnesty International.
