Mangaluru: The two-day Sri Krishna Janmashtami celebrations commenced in a grand and devotional atmosphere at Sri Krishna Balarama Mandira ISKCON, PVS Kalakunj, on Friday.
The opening day, held from 9 am to 9 pm, was filled with spiritual activities including bhajans, sacred rituals, benne alankara (butter decoration), Uyyale Seve (swing service), Mahabhisheka, and other devotional offerings. The temple premises witnessed a continuous flow of devotees, who gathered in large numbers to participate in the vibrant celebrations honoring Lord Krishna.
On August 16, the festivities will shift to Sharada Vidyalaya, where a cultural programme has been planned. Highlights include devotional songs, a live orchestra, food stalls, and the much-awaited ‘Sri Krishna Vaibhava’ – a grand performance by 300 artistes from Alva’s College, portraying significant episodes from the life of Lord Krishna.
The two-day celebrations will draw to a spiritual close with Maharudrabhisheka at 10 pm, followed by the Maha Mangalarathi at midnight, symbolizing the auspicious birth of Lord Krishna. Devotees are expected to gather in even larger numbers for the midnight offering, making it a memorable and divine conclusion to the festival.
