Team Mangalore’, the city’s renowned kite-flying troupe, will proudly represent India at the world’s largest international kite festival, scheduled to be held in France from September 13. For the global stage, the team is crafting two culturally rich and meaningful kites.

The first kite, a striking 18-foot-tall and 10-foot-wide chariot (Ratha), pays homage to Indian tradition. Conceptualized by artist Dinesh Holla, its construction is being led by Pranesh Kudroli, Satish Rao, and Arun, with Sarvesh Rao, the team’s lead, handling the kite’s stitching and final assembly.

The second kite delivers a timely message on water conservation. Designed in an applique style using ripstop nylon fabric, it features a palanquin bearing a pot of water, symbolizing water as Earth’s divine lifeforce. The visual narrative includes a sky backdrop, hills at the base, a central water pot, and lush greenery, underscoring the natural link between green cover and water preservation.

Both kites aim to blend artistic storytelling with social awareness, showcasing India’s cultural richness and environmental values on an international platform.

Team Mangalore is no stranger to global recognition, having participated in kite festivals across 12 countries, including England, Canada, France, Italy, South Korea, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Qatar, Dubai, and Sri Lanka.

As they prepare to take flight once again, their creations promise to inspire and impress audiences from around the world.
