Mangaluru: The Ullal police have arrested a 34-year-old man who had been evading multiple court-issued warrants for over a year. The accused, identified as Mohammad Nawaz, a resident of Mastikatte in Ullal, was taken into custody after sustained efforts by the police.
Accused had been absconding for over a year
According to police sources, Nawaz had been avoiding legal proceedings in connection with several court warrants. Despite repeated attempts, he had managed to stay out of reach of law enforcement for an extended period. His arrest marks a breakthrough for Ullal police in dealing with long-pending cases.
Video of arrest circulated on social media
Following Nawaz’s arrest, his associates allegedly filmed the police action on a mobile phone. The video soon found its way onto various social media platforms, where it was shared widely.
However, the circulation was not limited to visuals. Along with the footage, misleading and false messages began to spread online, allegedly targeting law enforcement and distorting the facts of the case.
Police commissioner orders strict action
Taking serious note of the incident, Mangaluru City police commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy instructed officials to register a case against individuals responsible for spreading misinformation. The commissioner emphasised that attempts to malign the reputation of the police force would not be tolerated.
He further urged the public not to believe unverified information circulated on social media and to rely only on official communication from the police department.
Background of the accused
Nawaz, who previously worked as a school bus driver at a private school in Babbukatte, has been in the spotlight for multiple legal issues. A case was also filed against him by his first wife in the district family court, seeking alimony.
Police sources suggest that his background and previous legal entanglements made him wary of appearing before the court, leading him to evade warrants for an extended period.
Investigation underway
The Ullal police have confirmed that further investigation is ongoing to determine the full scope of cases pending against Nawaz. Meanwhile, steps are also being taken to identify those responsible for creating and circulating false narratives on social media following his arrest.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to ensuring that legal procedures are upheld and warned that strict action would follow against those attempting to obstruct justice or tarnish the image of the police through misinformation.
Conclusion
The arrest of Mohammad Nawaz underscores the persistence of Ullal police in tracking down absconding accused despite prolonged evasion. It also brings to focus the growing concern of misinformation on social media, which authorities are now addressing with equal seriousness. The case serves as a reminder that evading justice is temporary and that law enforcement continues to strengthen its resolve in upholding legal accountability.
