In a first-of-its-kind initiative in Karnataka, Mangaluru’s Wenlock District Hospital has been equipped with a special buggy ambulance, sponsored by MLC Ivan D’Souza under the MLA Local Area Development Fund.

This unique facility, not yet available in any other government hospital across the state, is expected to significantly ease patient movement within the hospital campus. Currently, patients undergoing surgeries in the new hospital block often need to be shifted to the old building for further treatment or recovery. With the introduction of the buggy ambulance, such intra-hospital transfers will now be faster, safer, and more comfortable.

Hospital officials explained that the buggy ambulance will also be particularly useful for transporting patients to diagnostic facilities such as X-ray, CT scan, or MRI units without causing discomfort or delays. This innovation addresses a long-standing logistical challenge faced by both staff and patients, especially those requiring frequent transfers between departments.

District surgeons, administrators, and medical staff expressed their gratitude to MLC Ivan D’Souza for providing this much-needed facility. They noted that the move would not only improve efficiency but also enhance patient care, particularly for those in fragile health conditions.

The initiative marks a step forward in modernizing government healthcare infrastructure in Karnataka, ensuring that public hospitals too adopt patient-friendly innovations.
