Puttur: The Bellenje police have arrested a youth on charges of harassing a college student while she was returning home. The accused has been identified as Uday, a resident of Perlampady.
According to police sources, the student had lodged a complaint a few days ago, alleging that a man on a motorcycle harassed her during her commute. The incident caused distress to the victim, prompting her to approach the police.
CCTV footage helps investigation
Acting on the complaint, police registered a case and launched an investigation. The team examined footage from nearly 15 CCTV cameras installed in the vicinity of the incident. After scrutinising the visuals, they managed to trace the registration number of the motorcycle used by the accused.
With this evidence, the police tracked down Uday and placed him under arrest.
Accused taken into custody
Officials confirmed that the accused is now in custody and further inquiry is underway. Police have assured that strict action will be taken to ensure justice for the complainant.
The case has once again highlighted the role of CCTV surveillance in assisting law enforcement agencies in swiftly solving harassment and crime-related cases.
