A 35-year-old man was detained on Saturday, according to an official, after he allegedly called the Mira Bhayandar Vasai Virar police control room, claiming that explosions would be caused by bombs planted at the Dadar and Kalyan railway stations. However, the call turned out to be a hoax.
When the call came in at approximately five in the morning, the police immediately took action. According to a police release, the call was traced to Nallasopara in Palghar district, which is part of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).
Within hours of receiving the call, police caught Vikas Shukla from Nallasopara, it said.
“He was arrested after it was confirmed that the bomb threat was a hoax call. A case has been registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code,” police said.
Further investigation is underway.
