Kolkata: On Friday, a man was taken into custody in Durgapur, an industrial township in West Bengal, on suspicion of first raping a young girl and then showing the victim’s mother the video of the horrible crime.
Following her viewing of the video shared from the accused’s mobile phone, the victim’s mother filed a complaint at the Coke Oven Police Station. Subsequently, accused Latiful Sheikh, the victim’s family neighbor, was taken into custody.
According to a senior officer of the Asansol-Durgapur Police Commiserate, the accused was brought before a Durgapur court following his arrest, and the public prosecutor requested that he be placed under arrest.
The accused is charged under the Indian Penal Code’s Section 376, which deals with rape punishment, as well as several provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act.
He is now under judicial custody, though, per the court’s order.
The victim’s mother has complained that the accused invited the victim to his home about 15 days ago, and while there, he put her to sleep by putting sedatives in her cold drinks. After that, the accused allegedly not only sexually assaulted the victim but also videotaped the entire event and shared it with a few others, including the victim’s mother.
The victim’s mother said that initially she did not know anything. Her daughter was shattered after the incident and insisted on going to her grandmothers’ place. Finally, the victim’s mother came to know the real incident and filed a police complaint.
