There is a quote that ‘Too much sugar is bitter’. This is very true in the present context where more and more people are experimenting with self-medication.

When one finds variation in health, it has become common to go into self-medication mode. Going by the information in videos uploaded on social media such as WhatsApp, and YouTube, it is increasingly seen that people visit medical shops and buy medicines. Speaking about this phenomenon, Doctor from Kakunje Ayurvedic Wellness Clinic Dr. Anuradha cautions that any illness needs to be treated on consultation with the medical expert. It is the family physician who knows almost everything about our body, and it’s functioning. Therefore, before taking any medication it is paramount that you visit and consult the doctor with regard to appropriateness of the said medicine to your body, she advises.

Adding further, Dr. Anuradha says that though a particular medicine when taken without doctor’s consultation might give relief for that moment but might bring out a different problem in the days to come. For example; if one consumes sprouts, it is said that it helps one keep diabetes away. However, not many know that this will increase ‘Vata’ concentration in the body. Also, one could also lose weight, she informs.

In conclusion, consumption of any medication or food for prolonged period of time without doctor’s consultation will prove to be counter productive.
