Mysuru: Attention to detail in daily life is crucial for effective action, said Usha Rani, Principal District and Sessions Judge & Chairperson of District Legal Services Authority (DLSA). Speaking at the National Girl Child Day Programme, she highlighted the importance of education in combating gender-based atrocities.
Addressing laws like the PCPNDT Act, Child Marriage Prohibition Act, and POCSO Act, she noted that women and girls face significant challenges, including child marriage, trafficking, and forced labor. “Denying girls an education deprives them of dignity and opportunities, increasing their vulnerability,” she emphasized.
She also mentioned Supreme Court guidelines directing state governments to appoint District Marriage Protection Officers, alongside Deputy Commissioners and Superintendents of Police, to prevent child marriages.
ZP CEO Gayatri KM acknowledged a decline in exploitation in some areas but an increase in others. She stressed the need for multi-departmental coordination through workshops to address emerging challenges.
Senior Civil Judge BG Dinesh urged girls to be aware of legal protections and encouraged collaboration among departments to ensure justice.
DCP Mutturaj and Additional SP Nagesh were also present at the event.
