Mysuru: A gruesome crime has rocked Mysuru district after a 20-year-old woman was murdered by her lover in a lodge at Kappadi, Bherya village, Saligrama taluk. Police identified the victim as Rakshita, while the accused has been named as Siddaraju, a resident of Bilkere in Periyapatna.
The grisly crime
According to police reports, Siddaraju took Rakshita to the lodge under the pretext of spending time together. However, he allegedly killed her by placing a gelatin stick inside her mouth and triggering a small explosion, leading to her death on the spot.
Following the blast, the accused tried to mislead the lodge staff and others by claiming that a mobile phone had burst. However, his explanation did not convince the staff, who found no damaged phone at the scene.
Upon questioning, Siddaraju attempted to suggest that he had thrown the phone out of the window, but this raised further suspicion. The lodge employees immediately alerted the police, who reached the spot and took Siddaraju into custody.
Police investigation and motive
During interrogation, Siddaraju reportedly confessed to the crime. Preliminary investigations indicate that Rakshita was married to a man from Kerala but had been in an alleged extramarital relationship with Siddaraju. Police suspect personal disputes between the two may have led to the murder.
The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and forensic experts are assisting in collecting evidence from the scene. A case has been registered at the Saligrama Police Station, and further investigation is underway to determine how Siddaraju procured the gelatin stick and whether others were involved.
Similar crime in Uttar Pradesh
In a separate incident in Uttar Pradesh’s Siddharthnagar district, a 19-year-old jilted lover allegedly killed the father of a girl he was in love with and attacked the entire family.
Police reports state that the accused, identified as Mukesh Kumar Nishad, confronted the family while they were returning home to Nagchhori Kevathiya Deeh village around 9 pm on Saturday. Armed with a knife, Nishad fatally stabbed the girl’s father and injured her mother before abducting the 17-year-old girl in a car.
After driving a short distance, he attacked the girl as well and dumped her by the roadside before fleeing. Locals rushed to the scene and informed police, who shifted the injured girl and her mother to Gorakhpur Medical College, where they remain in critical condition.
Shock and outrage
Both incidents have sparked shock and outrage in their respective regions. The Mysuru case has raised serious concerns over how explosive materials are accessed, while the Uttar Pradesh case highlights the increasing frequency of crimes driven by rejected relationships.
Police appeal for vigilance
Authorities have appealed to lodge owners, hoteliers, and the public to be alert about suspicious behaviour of guests. Mysuru police have also assured that a detailed probe will be conducted to ensure justice for Rakshita and her family.
