A long-time driver who betrayed his employer’s trust has landed behind bars after stealing valuables from the house of an engineer working at Boruka Aluminium Factory.
The accused, identified as Vijayasai from Loknayaknagar, was arrested by Metagalli police for pilfering silver and gold ornaments worth ₹6.19 lakh. He had been employed for several years as a car driver at the residence of Manjegowda, an engineer by profession.
Despite his image as a loyal worker, Vijayasai secretly devised a plan to clear his debts. Over time, he systematically stole silverware and jewellery from the house, pawning them gradually to raise money.
When precious items began disappearing one after another, Manjegowda grew suspicious. He conducted a check and discovered that 990 grams of silver articles and 57 grams of gold ornaments were missing. Convinced that the driver was behind the thefts, he filed a complaint with the Metagalli police station.
Investigators soon questioned Vijayasai, and during interrogation, he confessed to committing the thefts. Acting swiftly, police recovered the stolen valuables from him.
Following his arrest, Vijayasai was produced before the court and has been remanded to judicial custody pending further investigation.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the locality, highlighting how trusted employees can sometimes exploit their access for personal gain. Police have urged citizens to remain vigilant and ensure valuable items are securely stored, even when staff appear dependable.
