Mangalore : A huge protest was staged in front of the DC Office in Mangalore on October 9, Wednesday demanding a CBI probe into the Sowjanya rape and murder case. The protest was organised by the All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA), Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) and Students Federation of India (SFI) in association with various like minded organizations.
The protestors made a vehement plea to the government to entrust the case to the CBI. They also demanded stricter anti-Rape laws and urged dismissal of police officers who have tried to destroy evidence in the Sowjanya case.
All cases of unnatural deaths of women in DK must be thoroughly probed and judgements passed within six months, they demanded.
Hemalatha, President of AIDWA said the security of women have been neglected by various governments.
Several leaders including SFI President Nitin Kuttar, Kiran Prabha, Dayananda and others participated in the protest.
Incidentally, it has been a year since Sowjanya went missing and was subsequently found dead at Pangala on October 10, 2012.
