Belthangady:”I will go ahead with my service works without paying heed to criticisms with ulterior motives. More schemes would be chalked out for the benefit of the poor. The criticisms have hurt me. But there is no dearth of self confidence and self-respect.  The  complete responsibility of the investigation into Sowjanya case is that of the Belthangady MLA and state government. I will not make any statement in this regard in the future,” said  Dr Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadhikari of Dharmasthala.

He was addressing a huge meeting of supporters of Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala organised at the Sri Ratnavarma Heggade Stadium of Ujire under the aegis of the Hitharakshana Vedike, Belthangady, on October 16, Wednesday.

Continuing, Dr Heggade said “I have extended complete co-operation to the investigation into Sowjanya case. When she was killed, I have sympathized with her family. Investigation is the work of the government and the police. If there has been no probe, then it is the failure of  the police and government. Hushing up Sowjanya case is no achievement of mine.  I have not done it. There are ulterior motives behind allegations.  Though CID investigated they had not made the investigation details public. When  enquired, they said no detail can be divulged during investigation. This has given room for doubts in the minds of the public. Let there be CBI or any other probe, it is the duty of the government and the local MLA Vasanth Bangera to see that truth is out,” he clarified.

“There is no land mafia in Dharmasthala. I do not know why such false rumours are spread. I was of the opinion that the rich have distanced them from us. But now I have realized that efforts  are underway to even  distance the poor from us. People should not pay heed to false rumours. Some  forces may try to create confusion. But I will not stop my works and will launch new schemes with new vigour.   I will also not issue any press statements, this is the final,” he declared.

State Urban Development Minister Vinaykumar Sorake who also spoke said “Heggade has done what the government could not. Today the entire nation has recognized  the Dharmasthala model. Still some forces are trying to create confusion and mislead CID probe. There should be a full stop to the attempts to tarnish the image of  the  Kshetra.  I will  speak to the CM and home minister and ensure that truth is out in this case.”

UT Khader, State Health Minister, Abhayachandra Jain, Minister for Youth Affairs, Rajendra Kumar, SCDCC Bank Chairman, Appanna Hegde, former MLC, Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, District President of  Kannada Sahitya Parishat, Vijayaraghava Padvetnaya, Managing Trustee of Ujire Janardhana Temple, Pratapsinha Nayak, President of Belthangady Taluk Hitharakshana Vedike,  Harish Kumar, Belthangady Block Congress President, Deviprasad Shetty,Udupi District JD(S) President, D Harshendra Kumar, D Surendra Kumr, Yogish Kumar, Dr B Yashovarma, Dr HL Manjunath and others were present.
