Dharmasthala: Dr D Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadhikari of Dharmasthala has said that he was deeply hurt by the attempts made to abuse him and the religious tradition of Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala by some people who have hurled allegations in connection with the Sowjanya murder case, during a TV interview.
Speaking to reporters here on October 15, Tuesday, he said “Sowjanya is a girl of our village. We too are hurt over her death. Even our college lecturers have visited her house and expressed their condolences. The next day, our college students had been to the Belthangady Tahsildar’s office in several buses and participated in the protest and submitted memorandum to the government. Now an attempt is being made to prove that our family and our educational institutions have no sympathy for the late Sowjanya.”
“We have evidences to prove the efforts made by us to seek justice to Sowjanya, he said adding there was a conspiracy to tarnish the rich tradition of the Sri Kshetra. Heggade said his nephew Nischal Jain against whom allegations have been made, was in US for higher education when the incident took place. We have the passport, visa and other documents,” he said. Moreover, he had done ATM dealings in the US the very next day of the incident, Heggade said.
He said the allegations made by some people in the TV interview were far from truth and urged the devotees not to pay heed to it. He said he neither has the experience nor was used to hear such allegations and added he prayed the almighty to give him the strength to bear with such things.
