Doha: Hannan XI emerged champions at the ‘Kundapur Trophy’ after defeating Tuskers in the final match of the cricket tournament held on November 19 at the old Ideal Indian School Ground, Midmac, Qatar.Akbar Hussain, KTC President, Niyaz Ahmed, KMCA President, Divakar Poojary, Abudlla Monu from Hidaya Foundation, Arun Kumar, Deepak Shetty from Karnataka Sangha, Milan Arun from ICC, KSQ vice president Subramanya Hebbagilu and KSQ president HK Madhu were present at the inaugural ceremony that started with the recitation of Quranic verses by Intikhab Alam.
The softball flood light cricket tournament was organized by Kundapur Taluk Cricketers (KTC). The lead eight teams of Qatar participated in the tournament. After two days of league matches, alliance Qatar, Hanan Qatar, Lama XI and Tuskers qualified to enter semifinal round which was conducted on evening of November 19.
On final day evening, a formal valedictory function was held where Shakuntaka Shetty, MLA and Karnataka parliament secretary graced the occasion as Chief Guest. KTC felicitated MLA Shakuntala for her great service to the society. KTC also felicitate KMCA president Niyaz Ahmed, Rajyotsava awardee from Chikkmagaluru and Tulukoota president Ravi Shetty, Rajyotsava awardee from Dakshina Kannada. Speaking on the occasion KTC coordinator Asmath Ali expressed happiness for Niyaz Ahmed and Ravi Shetty’s achievements.
Speaking on the occasion MLA Shakunthala expressed her gratitude to KTC and wished greater success for the event.
The spectacular semifinals were witnessed by enthusiastic cricket lovers. Hannan XI won the match by 8 wickets beating Alliance Qatar and entered the final. In the second semifinal, Lama XI batted first and scored 36, but Tusker batsmen easily chased the required score in 5.3 overs and won the second semifinals.
In the final, Tuskers won the toss and chose to bat first. Chasing 38 to win, Hannan XI won by 6 wickets chasing the score in 5 overs. Rishal was adjudged man-of-the-match in the final. Best bowler of the series was Saddam from Hannan XI. Best batsman was Rawoof from Hannan XI. Man of the Series was Jalal from Alliance.
