Abu Dhabi: The Mataro Charbela team is ready to perform the ‘Fut’lli Modki’ drama in Abu Dhabi after having performed a few shows in Mumbai and some other places. The Konkani Cultural Organisation (KCO) will be sponsoring the show on June 13 at The British School-Al Khubairat Near St. Joseph Cathedral, Abu Dhabi at 7.30 PM.

If there is a play that has seen nearly a hundred shows around the world and made thousands of people laugh along the way, it is ‘Mataro Charbela’. Francis Fernandes Cassia, a 75-year-old artist with the ability to carry the entire weight of an entire play on his shoulders as the lead, will hold the audience’s attention for more than two and a half hours with the comedy-centred drama “Fut’lli Modki”, his 33rd play.

The director of the play Joy Paladka is an experienced artist and looks after the administration of the entire team. He also looks after the accounts, stage and other settings.

Some of the female artists who will be seen in the play are Betty Naz, an elderly artist in Goa and Mumbai who brought to life characters in many plays; Julie Vas Marol, someone who takes some time out of politics, social work, compeering and parish commitments for the theatre; Flora D’Souza Kalmadi-Jerymery, the one who portrays her role with undivided enthusiasm and Shanthi Dsouza Boliye.

The play revolves around the family of a rich audacious lady named Janet. The actors have done justice to their characters under the effective direction of Joy Paladka, accompanied by beautiful music. Cassia is one of the main reasons for the survival and bloom of the Konkani theatre today.
