The revised project proposal for a new flyover connecting major national highways between Maharashtra and Goa to Belagavi has been submitted to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. However, approval is still pending. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Project Director at the National Highway Development Authority (NHDA), mentioned that construction will begin once the ministry issues formal instructions.

The state government’s proposal, which aims to build a 5-kilometre-long flyover, was discussed during Karnataka’s Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Satish Jarkiholi’s meeting with Union Minister Nitin Gadkari in June 2024. Following that, the proposal was approved in a meeting in New Delhi on August 13, 2024, with senior officials in attendance. The project has an estimated cost of ₹4,500 crore.

Flyover Details:

  • Route: The flyover will connect National Highway (NH-48) to Kittur Chennamma Circle, passing Sankam Hotel, Ashoka Circle, and RTO Circle.
  • Rotary and Ramps: New rotaries will be built at Ashoka Circle and Kittur Chennamma Circle, with ramps leading to key areas such as the Central Bus Stand and Mahantesh Nagar.
  • Connectivity: The Rani Chennamma Circle, Shri Krishna Devaraya Circle, and the bus station will be interlinked for better accessibility.
  • Airport Link: A service road will provide direct access to Belagavi Airport via a Road Over Bridge (ROB).

Once the final approval is granted, the construction is expected to significantly ease traffic and improve connectivity in the region.
