In two unrelated tragedies, two young professionals working in India’s tech sector died by suicide, prompting investigations into potential mental health and personal stressors.
In Pune, 23-year-old Piyush Ashok Kawade, an engineer employed at Atlas Copco (India) Pvt Ltd in Hinjewadi IT Park, died on Monday morning after jumping from his office building’s terrace. According to police, Kawade left an office meeting around 9:30 AM and proceeded to the rooftop. He left behind a suicide note addressed to his family, which is now central to the ongoing probe.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Sunil Kurade stated that there’s no immediate evidence linking the death to workplace pressure, though investigations are ongoing and family members are being consulted.
Police have registered a case of accidental death, and further inquiries are underway to understand what led to the tragic act.
In a separate incident in Bengaluru, Prashant Nair, a professional working with a private firm, was found dead at his residence in D.X. Smart Nest Apartments, Ganigarahalli, on the night of April 6. His father, M.N. Kutti (77), discovered him hanging from a ceiling fan after being alerted by a friend of the deceased.
Preliminary investigations suggest marital discord, with police noting that Prashant was not on good terms with his wife. Police are treating it as a case of suspected suicide and continue to examine the circumstances leading to his death.
These incidents highlight growing concerns over mental health and emotional well-being among young professionals.
