THANJAVUR: A private canteen operating within the Government Thanjavur Medical College Hospital was sealed by food safety officials on Tuesday after a dead lizard was discovered in the sambar served with lunch.
The alarming discovery was made by the attendants of a woman patient from Pudukkottai, who had bought lunch for themselves and the patient. Just as the patient was about to eat, she spotted the dead lizard in the sambar.
Food safety authorities promptly inspected the canteen and uncovered multiple violations, including operating without a valid food license. The facility was shut down immediately.
This incident comes on the heels of a similar case reported at Government Tiruvarur Medical College Hospital on June 20, where a canteen was also sealed after a lizard was found in the sambar served with idlis.
