Belthangady: In a deeply saddening incident, a 33-year-old teacher, identified as Ramya, took her own life by hanging herself at her maternal home in Koyyur village on July 12.

Ramya, daughter of Devappa Bangera and a resident of Darkhas, had been married to Latish of Padadka (also in Koyyur) for the past two years. She was working as a schoolteacher at Muguli School in Belthangady.

According to sources, Ramya had been battling an illness, and her decision to end her life came during her stay at her mother’s house. Tragically, the incident occurred just two days after the wedding of her uncle’s son, a time when the family was engaged in festive celebrations and preparing for a wedding reception scheduled for July 13.

The sudden and unexpected nature of her death has left the entire family in shock. A case of unnatural death has been registered at the Belthangady police station, and investigations are underway.

Mental health issues and emotional distress are often silent struggles. Incidents like these serve as a stark reminder of the need for greater awareness and support systems for individuals facing emotional or health-related challenges.
