Kottayam: A 56-year-old fisherman from Alappuzha district has gone missing after setting out to sea on Friday morning. The missing man, identified as Stephen, also known locally as Rocky, is a resident of Punnapra Vadakku panchayat.

According to initial reports, Stephen had ventured into the sea from Punnapra Paravoor in a small traditional boat during the early hours of the day. However, he failed to return, sparking concerns among his family and local residents.

Authorities suspect that Stephen may have been caught in powerful waves, which could have overturned his vessel or pulled him under. The sea in the region was reportedly rough at the time he went missing.

The Punnapra Police have initiated a search operation, aided by local fishermen and volunteers from nearby coastal areas. Despite continuous efforts, Stephen remains untraceable as of the latest update.

The incident has cast a shadow of anxiety over the fishing community, where Stephen was well known and respected. Locals have joined hands with police in combing the shorelines and waters in hopes of finding any trace of him or his boat.

Search operations are expected to continue through the night if weather conditions permit. Authorities have urged boat operators to remain cautious due to unpredictable sea conditions.

Family members are clinging to hope as efforts intensify, but the possibility of a tragedy looms large.
