In a shocking breach of trust, a staffer from a private de-addiction centre in Karukutty was arrested for allegedly peddling methamphetamine to patients under his care. The accused, 25-year-old Vivek alias ‘Dooli Vivek’, a resident of Chettarikal, was nabbed with 4.5 grams of meth on Sunday.

Acting on credible information, Excise officers tracked and arrested Vivek from his hometown. Investigations revealed he had been discreetly selling narcotics within the rehab facility, without the knowledge of management. Authorities suspect he is a prominent player in a wider drug network operating around Angamaly.

The Excise department, which has recently intensified its crackdown on drug activity in the Angamaly-Aluva belt, had earlier busted multiple cases that eventually pointed to Vivek. According to officials, he used the code word “point” to refer to meth sales, which were priced at ₹3,000 for just half a gram.

This is not Vivek’s first brush with the law—he already faces charges in previous cases involving substance abuse and physical assault.

The arrest was carried out by a dedicated Excise squad led by Chalakudy Range Inspector Harish C U. The team included Assistant Inspector Shafeeq T A, Chief Officers Pranesh P P, Ajith P A, Aneesh Chandran, Muhammed Shan, and WCEO Kavya K S.

Authorities are continuing their investigation to trace others linked to the network.
