Mangaluru: A case has been filed after a provocative social media post was found to potentially threaten communal harmony in the region.

On Monday, authorities discovered that a Facebook user, operating under the name “Abdul K,” had shared a message that was derogatory toward another community. The content of the post was considered inflammatory and capable of inciting hatred between religious groups, thereby disturbing public peace and order.

In response, Puttur Town Police registered a case against the account holder. The charges were filed under Sections 196(1)(a) and 353(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertain to acts that could provoke communal disharmony and obstruct public tranquillity.

Police officials confirmed that an investigation is currently underway to identify the individual behind the account and assess the broader impact of the message. Authorities have urged the public to avoid sharing unverified or inflammatory content online and to report such instances immediately.
