Bengaluru: A 21-year-old college student was found dead inside a rented room in the city on Sunday, with police suspecting that she was murdered by a man who later fled the scene. The incident has triggered a manhunt as investigators work to trace the accused.
Final-year BBM student found dead
The victim, identified as Devisri, was a final-year Bachelor of Business Management (BBM) student at Acharya College. She was found dead in a room rented by a woman named Manasa, raising several questions about the events leading to her death.
Police officials said preliminary observations indicate that Devisri may have been strangled or suffocated.
Accused allegedly locked the room and fled
According to officers investigating the case, the prime suspect has been identified as Prem Vardhan. Police said that Prem and Devisri entered the rented room around 9:30 am on Sunday and remained inside for nearly 11 hours.
Around 8:30 pm, Prem allegedly stepped out of the room, locked it from the outside, and immediately fled the spot. The motive behind the suspected murder is still unclear.
Complaint reveals the incident
The incident came to light after Jayant T (23), a native of Andhra Pradesh residing in Bengaluru, filed a complaint at the Madanayakanahalli Police Station. Based on the complaint, police registered a case under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertains to the offence of murder.
Manhunt launched for suspect
Police sources said investigators have obtained crucial clues that may help locate Prem, who is currently on the run. Multiple teams have been formed, and searches are underway in and around the city. Officials added that they are verifying Prem’s background, recent movements and possible motive.
Senior police officers said they expect a breakthrough soon, given the available leads.
