In a significant anti-drug operation, the Mangaluru City Crime Branch (CCB) confiscated 123 kilograms of cannabis and detained three individuals linked to its transportation from Andhra Pradesh. Based on reliable intelligence, officers halted two vehicles near Matadakere at Kantavara Cross in Beluvai village, Moodbidri.
The apprehended individuals have been identified as:
- Masood MK (45), a native of Mogaru House, Adoor, Kasaragod district, Kerala
- Mohammed Ashiq (24)
- Suber (30) — both hailing from Parappa in Kasaragod
Authorities also impounded two vehicles and five mobile phones, estimating the combined worth of the seized assets at approximately ₹46.2 lakh. City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy confirmed a case has been filed at the Moodbidri Police Station and assured intensified efforts to curb drug trafficking.
Meanwhile, Udupi’s Kundapur Rural Police detained four suspects in connection with a cow theft case near Kalavara Junction. CCTV footage revealed the men feeding the animal before binding its legs and taking it away in a vehicle, reportedly for unlawful slaughter. Those arrested include:
- Aboobacker (39)
- Mohammed Rafeeq (36)
- Yakoob (24)
- Sunil (33)
The incident is being probed under various sections of the Cattle Preservation Ordinance and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
Additionally, Brahmavar police nabbed six individuals for illegal card gambling at a lodge in Varamballi. Two others managed to escape. Officers seized ₹2.4 lakh in cash, phones, and gaming materials. A case was booked under the Karnataka Police Act
