With just ten days remaining for the global release of Lokesh Kanagaraj’s much-anticipated film Coolie, the excitement among fans has reached a fever pitch. The movie marks the acclaimed director’s first collaboration with Superstar Rajinikanth, and is set to release on August 14, clashing directly with Ayan Mukerji’s action drama War 2, starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR.
Despite the box-office showdown, fans and analysts believe Coolie is poised to dominate, unless War 2 earns overwhelming praise and Kanagaraj’s film receives unexpected backlash. The recently released trailer, over three minutes long, has further ignited fan frenzy, cleverly teasing high-octane sequences without revealing major plot details.
Among the theories flooding social media, the most intriguing is that Coolie might be a science-fiction film involving time travel. Reacting to these speculations at a pre-release event, Lokesh Kanagaraj said, “Even I’ve seen those theories. It’s surprising. I was just telling Sathyaraj sir that people think it’s a sci-fi and time-travel film. I can’t wait to see their reactions when they know the truth.”
He also expressed joy over directing Rajinikanth after working with Kamal Haasan in Vikram (2022), saying both icons are incomparable legends.
Coolie features a star-studded cast including Nagarjuna Akkineni, Soubin Shahir, Upendra, Shruti Haasan, Sathyaraj, and a cameo by Aamir Khan, with music by Anirudh Ravichander
