New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu extended her greetings to Indian Air Force (IAF) personnel, veterans, and their families on Wednesday, commemorating the 93rd Air Force Day. In her message on X, she lauded the courage, commitment, and excellence demonstrated by the IAF in protecting the nation’s skies and serving during disasters and humanitarian missions.

“Warm greetings to all air warriors, veterans and their families on Air Force Day! The Indian Air Force has always demonstrated courage, commitment, and excellence. Our Air warriors protect our skies and serve the nation with tireless dedication during disasters and humanitarian missions,” President Murmu wrote.

She further acknowledged the IAF’s operational strength, technological capabilities, and its role in national security. “Our Air Force has made the nation proud with its strength and readiness to face every challenge. I extend my best wishes to the Indian Air Force for success in all future endeavours,” she added.

Air Force Day celebrations and displays

The IAF’s Air Force Day celebrations at Hindon Air Base this year will showcase the achievements of Operation Sindoor, highlighting the force’s role in strategic operations, disaster response, and humanitarian missions. The static display will feature a wide array of platforms including fighter jets like the Rafale, Sukhoi Su-30MKI, and MiG-29, as well as India’s indigenous Netra AEW&C system.

Other key displays will include the C-17 Globemaster III, Akash Surface-to-Air Missile System, C-130J Hercules, Apache attack helicopters equipped with Longbow radar, and the Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH). An S-band Rohini radar will also be part of the demonstration.

In a special tribute, the recently retired MiG-21 Bison, which served the IAF for over six decades, will be showcased during the event.

Significance of Hindon Air Base

Hindon Air Base, one of India’s largest and most strategic airbases, is hosting the parade this year. Previously, Air Force Day celebrations were held in Chennai in 2024 and Prayagraj in 2023. The parade not only highlights India’s aerial capabilities but also honours the service and sacrifice of personnel across all ranks of the IAF.

The President’s message and the Air Force Day displays aim to inspire the nation and reinforce confidence in India’s defence preparedness, while also recognising the pivotal role of air warriors in maintaining peace, security, and humanitarian assistance.
