With over 550 million users in India, WhatsApp received 13,367 grievances from the country, addressing 31 of them through remedial actions. The term “actioned” refers to cases where WhatsApp took corrective measures in response to complaints.

Under India’s IT Rules 2021, WhatsApp reported receiving 11 orders from the Grievance Appellate Committee, complying with all of them as per their monthly compliance report.

“We remain committed to transparency in our operations and will continue to provide updates on our efforts in future reports,” the company stated.

In April, WhatsApp had banned more than 7.1 million accounts in India. In March, the platform received 10,554 complaint reports, taking action on 11 of them.

WhatsApp highlighted its efforts, involving engineers, data scientists, analysts, and law enforcement experts to manage these issues. The platform allows users to block contacts and report problematic content directly within the app. It also collaborates with specialists to combat misinformation, promote cybersecurity, and uphold election integrity.
