Shivamogga: The district has been experiencing good rains for the past one week and all precautionary measures have been taken to deal with copious rains and hazardous weather conditions, said Deputy Commissioner K. B. Sivakumar.
He was informing the media persons and the officials the district’s preparation to combat torrential rains. The district has received 20 per cent more rainfall in the last 18 days. Bhadra and Linganamakki reservoirs have been inundated with water and the Tungabhadra reservoir is almost full. Regular monitoring of water levels of all reservoirs is being undertaken. In all 163 villages of 67-gram panchayats, 74 areas under urban local bodies and 18 main roads have been identified as vulnerable areas and precautionary measures have been taken. Nodal officers have been appointed at each village panchayat level and that the control rooms have been set up in every taluk, he added.
During this rainy season, 3 human lives have been lost and compensation of Rs 15 lakh has been granted, said the DC.
