A 35-year-old man succumbed to injuries after falling off his two-wheeler when it hit an allegedly poorly designed speed breaker in the city.
The deceased has been identified as Ulla, an employee at Sangeetha Mobiles in Shivamogga. The incident, captured on a nearby CCTV camera, reportedly shows his motorcycle striking a speed breaker that was not clearly visible on the road surface, causing him to lose control and fall.
Succumbed to injuries
Following the accident, Ulla was rushed to a hospital with severe injuries. Despite medical treatment, he passed away two days later.
The incident has triggered widespread concern among residents, who have questioned the safety standards of speed breakers constructed by the municipal authorities.
Public outrage over road safety
Locals have demanded accountability, alleging that the speed breaker lacked proper markings and warning signage. Many have called for a comprehensive audit of similar road structures across the city to prevent further tragedies.
In response to the incident, the city corporation reportedly levelled the road and removed the speed breaker.
The tragedy has once again highlighted the urgent need for scientifically designed traffic-calming measures, proper visibility markings and strict adherence to safety norms to protect motorists and pedestrians alike.
