Mysuru: My close connection with Ranga Bhumi has always kept me rejuvenated, said Film Director T S Nagabharana on Friday.

During an interaction at “Belli Hejje”, a programme to showcase the works of Nagabharana organised by Karnataka Film Academy he said that he has always tried to bring new in his films. I experiment myself with the films and in the process learn a lot to do much better for better output in the future. Cinema has the power to change the society and I have always tried to prove that through my films. I have always followed a policy that I request my producers to do a film as I want and I will do a film as they want. My producers have not made me disappointed so far instead have worked for more films.

Commenting on recent film maker’s directors and artists he said that the Darshini culture has stepped into the industry where everyone wants success in a short span. They think that VFX effect can create a movie which is absolutely wrong. Content plays a key role in making a film and technology cannot create content. It is our intellect that makes a film. Technology can be a supportive system, it cannot improve creativity. Creativity which is the hall mark of film making can only come from dedication and hard work. He also noted that in the present scenario film industry is not involving the literary figures which has led the industry to apathy. Nagabharana who has mastery over transforming novels into films said that through his strong connection with the literary figures like Masti Venkatesha Iyenger and Gopalakrishna Adiga  he got the ideas and understood the sensitivity of the society.

Speaking on the difficulties in making Grahana one of his award winning movie he said that we started the film just Rs 50,000 investment. There was lack of technology and for everything I had to go to Chennai. But the film won 2 national awards best script and national integration. He recalled the incident where he locked up one of the dialogue writers in a room to complete as assigned. Technology and Finance were main constraints while making a film though I posed myself for experiments to create newness out of it he said.

While reacting to a question on Gandhi Nagar producers keeping him away he said that he said that it was because he was not interested in hero oriented films.

Recalling an incident he said that Akasmika was not written for Dr Rajkumar but for Shivarajkumar. Making Rajkumar as a hero to that film is also an accident.

Commenting on dubbing issue he said that according to the pacts made the issue of dubbing is left to the interest of the regions. Competition Commission of India has no legal authority to say or order anything on this issue. However, as CCI holds control over all other aspects they have a say in this too. But I still oppose dubbing. We need to nurture our languages.

President Karnataka Chalanachithra Academy D Rajendra Sigh Babu said that the File regarding Film City that has been granted for Mysuru has gone missing. He raised concern that along with the file the dreams of building Film City might also disappear if it gets late. Reacting this MLA Vasu said that he will instruct DC to look into this and this kind of development is usual in a government office. He assured to bring it to the notice of CM Siddharamaiah.

Mayor R Lingappa, President Zilla Panchayath Dr Pushpa Amarnath, Chairman MUDA K R Mohan Kumar, VC University of Mysore Prof K S Rangappa were present.
