Despite speculations about ticket sales for Kambala, organizers have dismissed such claims. The event, scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, is open to all who wish to witness the live race, as clarified by the organizers.
Several celebrities, including Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Anushka Shetty, Shilpa Shetty, KL Rahul, Sunil Shetty, Darshan, and numerous Sandalwood actors, have been invited to attend the event. The main stage is named after the late Kannada actor Puneeth Rajkumar. With an expected attendance of two lakh people, the Bengaluru police are implementing necessary security measures.
Kambala is a buffalo race held in the coastal districts of Karnataka during the winter months when farmers harvest their paddy crops. The race takes place on two parallel tracks filled with mud and water, with each pair of buffaloes accompanied by a jockey or ‘Kambala runner.’ Winning teams progress to higher rounds until a champion emerges.
Apart from winning the race, participants aim to splash water, with some winners determined based on the amount of water splashed, known as ‘kolu.’ Securing victory in a Kambala race is considered a significant achievement, and the racing buffaloes receive special treatment throughout the year.
The popularity of the sport spread beyond Karnataka, thanks in part to the blockbuster Kannada movie ‘Kantara.’
