The identification of the mind is the greatest obstacle to experiencing reality. It generates concepts, labels, images, words, judgments, and definitions that obstruct your relationship with the present moment. When used correctly, the mind is a great method. When used incorrectly, you don’t use it at all; it uses you. This is the disease in which you believe you are your mind and that the instrument has taken control of you. It is using you and you are unsure that you are its slave.
When you begin to observe the thinker, a higher level of consciousness is activated.
The good news is that you can break free from your mind right now. Begin to pay attention to the voice inside your head as much as possible. Take note of repeating thought patterns and old broken records. Listen truthfully and without judgement; otherwise, the thought loses its power. One day, you’ll catch yourself smiling to your inner voice as if it were a small child.
Make it your task to withdraw from the past or future whenever possible in order to access the power of now. If you imagine a better future, you feel hopeful or excited; if you imagine a worse future, you feel anxious. Both are illusionary.
