Radhika Chetan made a grand debut in Sandalwood with “RangiTaranga.” Upon release, she received critical as well as audience appreciation for her performance as Indu Suvarna. There was no looking back for Radhika after this film. She has acted in 5 films until now and most of them have been successful. Her sixth film “Asathoma Sadgamaya” is scheduled to release this Friday. In an exclusive conversation with NewsKarnataka.com, Radhika speaks more about “Asathoma Sadgamaya.”

Q: What type of role are you playing in “Asathoma Sadgamaya”?

I play a pivotal role in “Asathoma Sadgamaya.” The role is about a young woman, who comes from Finland to India in search of her roots. She is brought up in Finland but is originally from India. She is extremely talented and has great respect for Indian culture and heritage. She meets people here and how her life intertwines with them is the story of the film. In my film career, this is the first time, I am playing this type of character. I am hoping the audience will like this role.

Q: The film is made by a team of newcomers. How were you approached for the film?

Even though the film is made by newcomers, they were very professional in their approach as well as working style. When they narrated the script, I was impressed with my character. The film talks about the education system in India. I was impressed with the concept and felt that it would be very nice to have this film in my career graph. Rajesh Venoor is debuting as director with this film. He and his team have done everything to make the film a wholesome entertainer. They have given their best in their first venture itself.

Q: How did you prepare for the character?

As I play a girl from Finland, I researched on how people from Finland dress. I experimented with costumes. I tried to bring in the elements which foreigners have when they visit India. I also experimented with my hairstyle. Even when it came to language, I did some changes. Even though the character which I play knows fluent Kannada, I did my homework in this aspect as well. I had team’s support during the entire process.

Q: What do you feel regarding education system in India?

I feel there is a lot of awareness now regarding making education wholesome. People would only look at marks and figures and decide the future of students, which should not be the ideal way of education. Now students are encouraged to know and understand the concept and implement it. It is not about marks only. It is about how the school can impart values, through which students can face the rest of their life. The fundamental values should be imparted in schools. There are many educational institutions in India that believe this, which is a very good sign. There is much more to life than only reading to get marks.

Q: In the trailer, we see horror element at the end. Is this a horror film?

No, it is not a horror film. It has a bit of everything. The film has a mixture of elements of thriller, comedy, romance, drama, mother-daughter sentiments. It is a wholesome entertainer, which can be watched by people of all ages.

Q: Most of your films have thriller genre associated with it. Is it a deliberate attempt from your side?

Not at all. I am not thriller-bound. When I am approached with a script, I look at my character, the script and the director. If I am convinced that the director can give justice to my character, I sign the film. Most of my films have had thriller genre associated with it. But my last film “Hottegagi Genu Bategagi” and my next “Asathoma Sadgamaya” are not thrillers. It is just a coincidence that all my initial films were of thriller genre.

Q: What are your future projects?

I am currently working on “Chase.” It is an investigative thriller. I am also in discussion with other filmmakers. However, all the discussions are at a nascent stage and I cannot reveal anything until they officially announce it.

Radhika Chetan has impressed everyone with her acting skills. We hope to see her in more films in coming days. NewsKarnataka.com wishes her all the best.
