“Its Illegal”: Wasim Akram Reacts to IPL 2024’s High Scoring Matches

New Delhi: The IPL 2024 has witnessed a record surge in high scores, a phenomenon that is rarely seen in the history of T20 cricket. The 265-run mark, previously untouched in IPL history, was surpassed by two different teams on four separate occasions within the first four weeks of the tournament.

The way, SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) playing, their emergence as prominent contributors to these towering totals, notably posting scores of 287/3 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, 277/3 against Mumbai Indians, and 266/7 against Delhi Capitals. Kolkata Knight Riders also joined the fray with a formidable score of 272/7 against Delhi Capitals, last night.

SRH has stunned world cricket by amassing by amassing 125 runs in just six overs against Delhi Capitals, with Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma hammered the white all over the park. The SRH surpassed 100-run mark in just five overs.

When asked about the explosion of high scores in the IPL, Pakistan pace legend Wasim Akram expressed his astonishment. He labeled the feat of scoring 100 runs in five overs as “illegal,” stating the immense challenge faced by bowlers in such scenarios. Despite sympathizing with the bowlers, Akram acknowledged the need for them to innovate and adapt.

He also praised SRH’s formidable batting lineup, particularly highlighting the contributions of players like Travis Head, Heinrich Klaasen, and Abdul Samad.

Akram likened the task of defending 270-plus scores to the challenge of restricting a team to under 500 runs in a 50-over game.
