Mangaluru: Suryakumar Yadav, popularly known as SKY is a star Indian batsman, who is well known as a Mumbai Indians cricketer. He was part of multiple IPL trophies for the franchise since 2018.
SKY represents Mumbai in domestic cricket and his stint of good performances made him the key player of the side across formats. He is known for his stylish cricket shots and big hitting abilities.
The 31-year-old SKY made his international debut in March 2021 against Sri Lanka in T20is. In his debut he smashed a first ball six and thus became the first Indian cricketer to achieve the feat in T20i debut and he converted his top notch into a fifty. In July, 2021 he made his One Day International debut against the same team and scored a half century in his debut series. Sky became a permanent top order batsman for India in limited over formats.
SKY was part of Team India in the 2021 World Cup. He played many white ball games in a year and he delivered some crucial match winning innings. The biggest breakout performance came in T20is, he scored a mammoth 55 ball 117 against England at Trent Bridge on July 10, 2022 and thus became the fifth Indian to score a century in the format after Suresh Raina, K. L. Rahul, Rohit Sharma and Deepak Hooda. The stylist batsman broke into Top 10 ICC Rankings following the end of the series.
SKY is a stylist, unorthodox smasher of a cricket ball and hits daddy sixes to all parts of the ground. Team India experimented with him and made him play in different positions. On August 2, 2022 Sky played a match winning knock of 44 ball 76 runs against West Indies and now he stands second in Men’s ICC T20i rankings with 816 points and he is just two points behind Babar Azam. SKY might become the new No.1 batsman soon with Azam and him scheduled to play at Asia Cup Tournament late August.
World Cup in the month of October this year might further cement his position. Surya’s services with the bat will be the x-factor of the side.
