CWG 2022: India finishes top in weightlifting

The Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022 is moving ahead at a greater pace and high energy. The world of sports has come back to normalcy after the pandemic strike in 2020. The games kicked off on July 28, 2022. The games include over 280 events across 20 different sports.

The Indian team comprises over 200+ athletes performing in 16 different sports. India started the Commonwealth campaign in a tremendous style. The Indian side topped the medal tally in the concluded event of weightlifting.

The Indian men and women have bagged 10 medals in weightlifting. India secured 3 gold, 3 silver and 4 bronze medals. Jeremy Lalrinnunga (67 Kg), Achinta Sheuli (73 Kg) and Mirabhai Chanu (49 Kg) bagged the gold. Sanket Sargar (55 Kg), Vikas Thakur (96 Kg) and Bindyarani Devi (55 Kg) won the three silvers. Lovepreet Singh (109 Kg), Gururaja Poojary (61 Kg), Gurudeep Singh (109 Kg) and Harjinder Kaur (71 Kg) won the bronze for the country.

The Indian side however failed to outbeat the 2018 campaign of five gold medals in the category. However India stood top with ten medals followed by Canada with eight medals and England with three golds.
