Mysuru: The cultural city will have another feather in its fold soon. The Karnataka state Cricket Association (KSCA) will construct an international cricket stadium in the city.
The KSCA president Roger Binny and Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) held a meeting on Wednesday in this regard.
The MUDA decided to provide 19.30 acres of land at Hanchya Sathgally layout at B zone beside ring road near VTU college for construction of cricket stadium. The KSCA applied MUDA in the year 2014 to provide land for the construction of the stadium. After many discussions, finally MUDA identified the land at Sathgally.
However, the MUDA is yet to decide if the land will be given for lease or for sale. MUDA president H V Rajiv said that a meeting will be held on September 9 with chief minister Basavaraj Bommai for final decision in this regard.
KSCA president Roger Binny said that Mysuru is a fast-growing city which requires world class cricket stadium. If cricket stadium comes up, tournaments like IPL and others can be conducted here.
KSCA treasurer Vinay Mruthyunjay said that an international quality stadium in the land will be provided by MUDA. He said this would be second main stadium after Chinna swamy stadium in Bengaluru. He said KSCA constructed cricket stadiums in Alur, Hubli, and Belagavi by spending Rs 25 crores each. He said KSCA would spend Rs 50 crores for construction of stadium in Mysuru.
At present KSCA is maintaining Srikantadatta Narasimharaja wodeyar grounds at Manasa gangotri. The lease period was extended for16 years. However, the grounds have no restaurant and other facilities due to shortage of space. The new stadium will have all the facilities.
