Following India’s 3-1 defeat in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy down under, the fallout off the field has been just as intense as on it. While losing a Test series in Australia is not unheard of, what stirred a storm this time were the persistent leaks emerging from the dressing room — a space usually guarded with utmost confidentiality.

Speculations started swirling soon after, including whispers about a player lobbying to be named interim captain. The most shocking revelation, however, came when reports surfaced that head coach Gautam Gambhir allegedly held Sarfaraz Khan responsible for leaking internal matters.

Now, in a fresh twist reported by Dainik Jagran, the BCCI has reportedly taken disciplinary action. Assistant coach Abhishek Nayar, a close confidant of many players and only eight months into his job, has reportedly been shown the door. Though there’s no official word yet from the board, the rumblings have already set the cricketing world abuzz.

Additionally, long-serving fielding coach T. Dillip and trainer Soham Desai have also been relieved of duties. A reported internal circular by BCCI cited a policy to phase out support staff who’ve served more than three years.

There will be no direct replacements for Nayar and Dillip. Instead, Sitanshu Kotak and Ryan ten Doeschate will absorb coaching responsibilities, while renowned fitness expert Adrian Le Roux — currently with Punjab Kings — will step in for Desai post-IPL.

Head coach Gambhir, addressing the media, emphasized, “Dressing room debates must stay there. Honest chats have happened — but performance is what matters. The team comes first, always.”
