New Delhi: Teenage cricket sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi has once again stunned the cricketing world with his extraordinary performance in the recently concluded India U-19 vs England U-19 Youth ODI series, proving his Indian Premier League (IPL) exploits were no fluke. The 14-year-old prodigy amassed 355 runs in five matches, setting multiple records and solidifying his place as a rising star of Indian cricket.

Dominant display with the bat

Suryavanshi’s run tally came at an astonishing strike rate of 174.01, the highest ever in a Youth ODI series for any player with over 200 runs. His scores included a century and a half-century, showcasing both power and consistency. India, under the captaincy of Ayush Mhatre, won the five-match series 3-2.

The highlight of the series was Suryavanshi’s 143 off just 78 balls in the fourth ODI, where he recorded the fastest century in Youth ODI history, reaching three figures in just 52 balls. He also played a blistering knock of 86 off 31 balls in the third ODI, the quickest 80+ score ever in Youth ODIs, surpassing Suresh Raina’s 38-ball 90 from the 2004 U-19 World Cup.

Historic numbers and rare records

His 355-run haul is now the fifth-highest in a bilateral Youth ODI series, and the second-highest by an opener. What sets Suryavanshi apart is his unprecedented combination of volume and speedno other player in U-19 history has scored 300+ runs in a series at a strike rate above 150. Previously, the best was Towhid Hridoy of Bangladesh, who scored 431 runs at a 114.62 strike rate in 2019.
