On social media, a video of a man defacing a Mumbai station and then defending his actions has gone viral. The man can be seen in the video hurling gutka packets from the train. Remarkably, he defends his actions by saying he pays for upkeep and is therefore free to trash the station. The official X passenger support handle, Railway Seva, has responded to this video.
โThis gentleman gives maintenance to the @RailMinIndia to clean it and he will keep on doing filth and will not improve,โ reads a part of the caption written alongside the video shared on X.
When the video first starts, it shows a commuter on a Mumbai local train hurling a gutka packet out the window. He was told to keep the packet in his pocket and dispose of it in a dustbin by a fellow traveler who saw him.
The passenger used his payment of railway maintenance as justification for his actions. A fellow passenger laughed and said, “You should be awarded for this.” In response, the man said, “Yes, give me an award.”

The video was shared on April 17 on X. It has since then collected over 2,000 views and numerous likes. Many even took to the comments section of the post to share their thoughts.

Another added, โThere are daily offenders in locals who put smelly feet on seats or their dirty shoes. Use mobile loudspeakers and disturb the peace! Use local dubbas like their homes. Train marshalls besides TCs are needed to fine such offenders.โ
โThis guy gives maintenance to the government so that he can litter around. Please teach him a good lesson,โ wrote a third.
