A senior officer of the Uttar Pradesh Police was transferred to police lines after a viral video showed him wearing a towel and vest while on duty at a police outpost in Kaushambi district of the state.
A video that has gone viral on social media shows the mistaken police officer, Sub-Inspector (SI) Ram Narain Singh, listening to complaints from the public at the Scindia outpost under the Kokhraj police station in the Kaushambi district. Singh is dressed in a vest and has a towel wrapped around his waist.
After the video went viral, SI Singh was appointed as the outpost’s in-charge before being relocated by higher-ranking department authorities.

The outpost in-charge, SI Singh, is seen wearing a towel and a vest. Unbeknownst to him, though, someone surreptitiously recorded the police officer wearing only his underwear rather than a police uniform, then posted the footage on social media.
The video also shows some men, presumably policemen, napping in another back room at the station.
Three women from Balamau hamlet, which is under the jurisdiction of Kokhraj police station, reportedly showed up at the Scindia Chowki (outpost) to register a complaint about a family conflict. When the complainants arrived at the police shop, they discovered that it was mostly empty and that the chair of the supervisor was also empty.
The outpost in-charge soon emerged from his room, but to the surprise of the female complainants, he was clad just in a vest with a towel wrapped around his waist. The footage showed the women looking noticeably uncomfortable while the SI Singh sat in his chair in a semi-naked state.
Despite dressing in such an unprofessional and blatant manner, the women swallowed their guilt and told the police about their complaints. The officer seemed unfazed by their behavior.
Social media users were outraged by the footage and called for the police officer to be disciplined for his unethical behavior.
It is claimed that the viral video was posted last week.
According to police, they have formed an investigation team to look into the event after becoming aware of the widely shared video.
According to Additional Superintendent of Police Samar Bahadur Singh, an investigation is being conducted to ascertain the incident’s facts, and if the officer is found to be at fault, severe consequences would be imposed.
In the interim, while an investigation is conducted, SI Ram Narain Singh has been moved to district police lines, according to a second senior police official.
Awadhesh Vishwakarma, the Sirathu Circle Officer, has been tasked with conducting a comprehensive investigation by the department, Superintendent of Police Brijesh Kumar Srivastava informed news agency PTI.
