Udupi: In a significant step towards boosting local commerce, Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna laid the foundation stone for the much-awaited Parkala Market Complex, to be built at an estimated cost of ₹3.5 crore by the Udupi Municipal Council.
Addressing the gathering, MLA Yashpal stated that the new market facility will cater to a wide range of daily needs including sections for vegetables, fish, meat, general shops, and will feature modern infrastructure with parking amenities. The development aims to greatly benefit residents of Parkala and nearby areas, enhancing convenience and supporting local vendors.
The event saw the presence of several dignitaries, including Udupi Municipal Council President Prabhakar Poojary, Vice President Rajani Hebbar, Standing Committee Chairman Sundar Kalmadi, and council members Sumitra Nayak, Balakrishna Shetty, Manjunath Manipal, Vijayalakshmi, and Ashwini.
Also present were former council president Dinakar Shetty Herga, President of the Raw Fish Sellers’ Women’s Association Baby H. Salyan, and other prominent figures such as Dilip Raj Hegde, Dinesh Shetty, Diwakar Shetty, and Prakash Shetty, along with Municipal Assistant Executive Engineer Durga Prasad, fish vendors, and local community leaders.
The Parkala Market Complex is expected to become a vibrant hub for trade and public utility, marking a step forward in the town’s urban development.
